Planning & Licensing

Flintshire People’s Voice believes that the planning system should work for ordinary people, not big developers. We reject the idea, constantly trotted out by the UK and Welsh Government, that handing developers the power to build pretty much where they like is key to our economic wellbeing.

Where houses are built, we believe that they should be consistent with their surroundings. That means their appearance should tie in with the vernacular style of the town or village they are part of, and that they should be of a similar size. We will end the practice of allowing huge estates of massive houses, ‘executive mansions’, crammed onto green space, often poorly built, leaving local people priced out and worsening our housing crisis. The only people who benefit from this are big developers.

FPV supports the immediate commissioning of work on a new Local Development Plan (LDP). We cannot support continued delay, when this will inevitably lead to there being no plan in place post-2030, and a return of speculative development to our communities. As part of a new LDP, we will press for measures such as a requirement for all new homes to include solar energy installed as standard, and be well insulated, to reduce local energy demand, meet climate obligations, and keep bills low.

FPV stands with residents of park homes who have been subjected to unreasonable and unlawful behaviour from the owners of the parks. An FPV administration will use the full powers of the council to deal with cases where park home companies are treating residents with contempt. We will enforce site licence conditions in full, requiring reasonable standards of maintenance on sites, and an end to intimidation of residents. An FPV-led council will not hesitate to use powers of last resort, such as appointing site managers, where appropriate.
