Dignity in Death

Residents across Flintshire are increasingly having to bury their loved ones outside of their local community because of a lack of burial space across the county. Whilst this is a challenge facing local authorities across the country, it is particularly acute in Flintshire. Flintshire People’s Voice believes that residents have the right to be laid to rest in their local community.

FPV believes in innovative solutions to the problems caused by a lack of burial space, and our councillors have already been responsible for bringing above-ground burials, known as columbaria, to Flintshire’s cemeteries.

In power, we will go further. We will proactively seek to expand the bereavement options available to residents, including the expansion of existing above-ground burial methods such as columbaria, as well as constructing a Wales-first communal mausoleum to tackle the lack of burial space. We will further expand access to more environmentally-friendly burial options such as woodland burials, as well as committing to investing in cutting-edge solutions such as resomation.

Together, these solutions will provide residents in Flintshire with access to world-leading bereavement services as well tackling the problems caused by a lack of burial space.

Our commitment to providing the best service from cradle to grave is universal – for those who pass away with no next of kin, we will ensure that the bereavement services team is adequately funded to provide high-quality Section 46 funerals (public health funerals), ensuring that residents in this position are laid to rest in their local communities, with a full funeral service and the provision of a celebrant.
